The area around offers a lot of interesting sightseeing. After a 30 minute-drive you will reach
Szantod, from there you can catch the ferry and go to the peninsula Tihany. It
is situated at the northern part of the lake. A beautiful little village that
has a mediterrenean vegetation and reminds you of a an Italian village. It was shaped
by volcanism. At the deepest point you find two lakes, reed covered little farmers
houses. If you drive or walk up the mountain you will have the most phantastic
view over the balaton. The symbol of Tihany is its baroque abbey. Donator and
founder was king Andreas I who was burried in the crypt. The abbey was returned
to the benedectins in 1994. The abbey houses a museum about the last king of
Hungary, Karl II, who was the nephew of Franz-Josef. After the First World War
he had found refuge/shelter here.
The famous Heviz is a health resort and includes a rehabilitation center. Its termal bath has a size of 47.500 qm, the water renews itself every 28 hours. The temperature heats up in summer until 34 degrees, in winter time it still has 25 degrees. The installations
are built into the lake which is full of waterlilies. Enjoy massages and otehr healing and
relaxing methods.
KESZTHELY:
A baroque castle

which was built in 1745. Inside you will find a hunting, carriage and a train
museum. Cultural events and concerts often take place in the castle.
